Mupirocin ointment is a prescription topical antibiotic used to treat bacterial skin infections, most commonly impetigo, by killing bacteria and stopping their growth. It is highly effective against Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pyogenes, including MRSA. Common uses include treating impetigo, infected small wounds, or minor burns.
